Who We Are

Written by

Kristi P. Crates could make you laugh. Kristi could make you smile. Kristi could make you dream.

Kristi was a child at heart. Kristi died a child at heart.

In her early 20’s, Kristi was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system. The condition was serious, and Kristi, a mere child herself, began the biggest challenge of her life – the challenge to survive!

Surprising all statistics and diagnosis, Kristi’s determination to live and live happily gave her 15 more years to be a kid. Kristi kept her laugh, her smile and her dreams, all the while helping others around her cope with their own struggles, never dwelling on her own.

In 2007, it became apparent Kristi had begun to lose her battle with Hodgkin’s. Inspired by Kristi’s zest for life and compassion for children, Elise A. Redmond promised her best friend two things: (1) that she would continue to honor their childhood tradition of hosting an annual southern cookie exchange; and (2) that she would spread Kristi’s message of supporting children and giving them the opportunities to enjoy every minute of their lives.

Although Kristi died just a few weeks later, those promises are very much alive today.

Founded in 2007 and in Kristi’s honor Elise A. Redmond and her husband, Doug Redmond, created Cookies For A Cause™, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In an effort to help children in need, their mission is to promote the health, development, care and well-being of all children that need support. They also honor Kristi’s spirit of being a kid at heart, by helping children in fun and unique ways. Their out-of-the- box style of fundraising, has allowed them to create spectacular events like Club Cookie, National T’s For Kids Day, and the Cookie Dough Campaign. We’re working together to bring the same inspiration, courage, support and laughter to all children that need a hand, just as Kristi did. We are on a mission to not only help children live and thrive, but to live and thrive happily.

We invite you to join us in the thrill of supporting these sweet kids, and make a difference, one morsel at a time.
